The classic rock vibe of the music series at the American Express golf tournament in recent years will take on a bit of a country feel in 2020.

Two-time Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan will perform at the tournament one night after two-time Rock and Rock Hall of Fame inductee Stevie Nicks plays at the PGA Tour event at PGA West in La Quinta.

Nicks will perform Jan. 17, 2020, on a stage set up on the driving range at PGA West. Bryan will perform Jan. 18.

The two performances mark the third consecutive year that the tournament, under the sponsorship of American Express for the first time in 2020, features two concerts. The concerts are included in the price of the golf tickets for the day, with the concerts beginning about 45 minutes after golf ends.

“One of the key elements of the event has been this golf-entertainment model that we have brought in,” said Jeff Sanders, executive director of the American Express event for operating company Lagardere Sports. “Some call it Golf-chella. I happen to like that term. We believe that’s what this event really needs to be. It needs to combine music, food, wine and charity all together with the best golfers in the world.”

Nicks is known for both her prolific solo career as well as for her work with iconic rock band Fleetwood Mac. As a member of the band, Nicks was both a writer and a singer on songs like “Rhiannon,” “Landslide” and “Gold Dust Woman.” In her solo career, Nicks has had hits with “White Winged Dove,” “Stand Back,” and “Edge of Seventeen” as well as collaborations with Tom Petty and Don Henley.

Bryan, the CMA Entertainer of the Year in 2014 and 2015, was a headliner at the Stagecoach festival in Indio last April, the third time he has headlined the country festival. During Stagecoach week this year, Bryan played a round of golf in the desert with Phil Mickelson, the World Golf Hall of Famer who is the host of the American Express tournament.

Bryan’s 2013 album “Crash My Party “ was named the album of the decade of the 2010s by the Academy of Country Music. He is also in his third season as a judge on the television show “American Idol.”

Music at the tournament began in 2017 with a performance by Fitz and the Tantrums on the PGA West driving range. A larger stage in 2018 saw Huey Lewis and the News perform one night and Goo Goo Dolls the next night. Last January the two acts were Sammy Hagar and Bad Company.

Under new pricing for tickets for the tournament this year, all-inclusive tickets for golf and the concerts on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 will be $50 per day. Tickets for Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday (days of golf but no concerts) will be $35 per day.
